RefuseRadar lets people report waste and environmental hazards in their area, and confirm when a site has been dealt with. That covers illegal dumping, overflowing bins, roadside litter, market waste, construction debris, electronic waste, blocked drainage, erosion, and flooding. Doing it requires photographs of places and the locations they were taken.
RefuseRadar is a product of Netcive Ltd (RC 9769006), which operates the platform and is responsible for the personal data described here. "We" and "us" below mean Netcive Ltd.
RefuseRadar is in closed testing. It is available to a small invited group and is not publicly released. Reports made during this period are real and are kept.
What we collect
| Information | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| Email address, or phone number | To create your account and sign you in. An email address is verified before it can be used. |
| Name, display name, gender, profile picture | Optional. Shown alongside what you contribute, so other people can see who reported or validated something. |
| Photographs and video you submit | They are the report. Without an image there is nothing to assess. |
| Precise location | Attached to each report, so a site can be found again. We also keep your most recent known location and the location of your most recent validation, because both features are limited to people who are actually near a site. While the app is open we keep a separate, short-lived note of roughly where you are, so that people nearby can be offered a report to check. It is deleted automatically half an hour after it is recorded. |
| Notification token | To tell you when something happens to a report you made or were asked to check. |
| Activity on the platform | Which reports you made, which clearances you validated, and scores derived from that history. |
Location, specifically
Location is the part worth being direct about. We collect it in four places:
- On a report: where the site is. This is the point of the app.
- On your account: your most recent known position, so the app can show you your own area without asking every time.
- When you validate: your position at that moment, because confirming a clearance requires being near it. This is how the platform tells a genuine confirmation from a remote one.
- While the app is open: roughly where you are, so that somebody reporting a site near you can be offered your help in checking it. This one is deliberately short-lived. It is deleted half an hour after it is recorded, and we keep no history of it, so it can say where you are now but never where you have been. If you have not granted location access, it is not collected at all.
You can decline location access. The app will be substantially less useful: you will not be able to submit a report or validate a clearance.
What other people can see
A report is public within the platform. Anyone using RefuseRadar can see the photograph, the location, and the name or display name attached to it. Do not photograph anything you would not want associated with you.
Faces and number plates are blurred automatically before a photograph is shown to anyone else. That process is automatic and is not perfect. If something has been missed, report the image and it will be reviewed.
Your email address, phone number and exact stored position are not shown to other users.
Who else we share it with
We do not sell personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.
It is processed on our behalf by:
- Amazon Web Services, for hosting and storage, in Ireland.
- Google Firebase, for delivering notifications to your device.
- An air quality data provider. We send a location to retrieve a reading for the area around a report. No account information is sent.
- A crash reporting service, for diagnostic information when the app fails.
We will disclose information if we are legally required to. Aggregate figures about an area, such as how many sites there are and how severe they are, may be shared publicly or with government and waste operators. Those figures do not identify anyone.
How long we keep it
Reports and their photographs are kept while the record is useful, because the value of the platform is knowing whether a place has had the same problem repeatedly.
Delete your account and we remove your personal details and disconnect you from what you contributed. Reports themselves may remain as anonymous records of a place, with no name or account attached.
Your choices
- Ask for a copy of what we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong, from your profile.
- Delete your account from within the app, or by request. See Delete your account for how, and for what is removed.
- Turn off notifications, on the device or in settings.
- Withdraw location access, in your device settings.
For any of these, or anything else about this policy, write to support@refuseradar.com.
Children
RefuseRadar is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Passwords are stored hashed and are never recoverable in plain text. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will say so in the app before the change takes effect, and this page will carry the new version from the day it applies.
